7 months since moving to nyc I have some observations:
- People here are incredibly ambitious
- Cost of living is high, but the salaries can balance it out. Its really up to you on what you wanna sacrifice - ie: location, amenities, eating out everyday. That said money does seem to go away very fast - grab dinner at a new place, go to a concert/show, see a sport event. It all adds up much faster than you realize
- Public transportation works pretty good, but its not the most comfy and you'll likely see some interesting scenes. I genuinely hate Delancey-Essex station and I go out of my way to avoid it. On the weekends they do constructions on the metro, so you gotta be sure that your route is still working. I heard that its a summer thing tho, so will see in the winter.
- So many people here takes care of themselves. The number of attractive, fit people walking around is insane (not even models or actors). Just regular people who find time to work out and dress well
- Its really an interesting scene to see a homeless person next to a 10M dollar townhouse in Chelsea. That contrast hits you constantly here.
- Streets do smell, i don't wanna identify the smell
- People like to eat out
- If you love shopping this city is for you. I came in hating it and now I catch myself picking up little trend addictions.
- Getting groceries to your door step matters more than every other city i’ve lived in because you are racing for time.
