Usually I stay out of academic diatribes, but in the case: hard disagree. I am in favor of small models that work and of bottom-up rigorous empirical work. More bottom-up work, please. This proposal is a political manifesto masquerading as epistemology. A rough proposal: to educate economists (and financial economists) early on to be scholars first and foremost, and not advocates, activists, or ideologues. To keep the sciences as much out of politics as possible, so that we can keep politics out of the sciences (and the universities) as much as possible.
