I think founders love 3 types of investors: 1) First Check 2) Largest Check 3) Most Helpful Check And #3 is where most VCs focus ('value add'), thus the most competitive and most difficult to stand out. As a VC, I would focus on #1 or #2 and do your best at #3.
Founders prioritize differently in different markets: In hyper competitive markets (ie AI, crypto, etc) - you want to be #2 - the Largest Check. In non competitive markets (ie Bio, consumer, etc) - you want to be #1 - the First Check.
